One lesson I've learnt this year (so far) is that you can't always depend on your family, extended family, and friends. You've only got yourself in the end (or in most situations) so build yourself up to be more independent so that you don't end up being disappointed.
I'm starting to think I'm socially disabled. I can't seem to keep up with friends. And I can count, on one hand, the people I can depend on. This excludes my parents and grandparents and godfather, of course. Maybe my expectations are too high? Maybe I'm not busy enough to be too busy with work that I don't have time with friends? When I have the good days I always think the bad days are gone and will stay gone forever. But damn, they come back. And I hate the bad days because I hate how they make me feel.

I wish I had just a little bit of the energy/spirit/views like Christopher McCandless (a.k.a. Alexander Supertramp) had. He is the most determined person I have encountered, even if just through a movie. His views, idealistic - which is how the boy says I am. I could relate to him but he was way too idealistic for me. But he was so strong, he just kept going. With his books, his favorite authors guiding him. So inspiring. I was just blown away. I could never do what he did, never. I hope there are more people like him out there.

Listen to Long Nights by Eddie Vedder. I need to get my hands on the soundtrack.

breeze through

Yup, it's been a month already since I last posted anything. For lack of anything more interesting, I just wanna recap on a party we had last month at our house. It was a housewarming-slash-going-away party, really. The boy's brother, Sam who was living with us, was moving away to a new job. And since we still haven't had a house party to commemorate us moving there (since July last year..) I thought we should have it just before Sam could leave. It was quite last minute planning but it turned out pretty awesome :) I had to crack it on the decor but somehow I winged it and it was just simple.

{photos taken by the boy on party day}

We were bummed cos some of our friends couldn't make it (one was in Cambodia and another was having transport problems) but it turned out great, all our other friends made it and cheered us up :) Some just surprised us - okay, me - because I just didn't expect them to show up, because I thought they were the forgetful type haha. But they did! And brought with them fried chicken and wine :) At the end of the night, we were feeling pretty special and loved. It was such a good feeling after all that tiring preparations.

I just want to add a few photos, post-party. And just to let you know, the hall (where these are taken) is my favorite place in the house. I am biased because it's also the most decorated and colourful place right now. Yeah I need to work on making the other rooms more appealing.

 We got the 'Motorcycle' clock, those miniature watering cans, and the bird cages from Bangkok :) The elephant aromatheraphy thingy was from Phuket. The sign was found in a interior decor shop in KL. And the Coca Cola machine was a free gift (the boy got it, I forgot from where)

 That classy-looking photoframe with our picture in it was a present from lovely Nicole :) That photo was actually taken by her as well. She gave us a whole bag of goodies from Canada. I think it was our engagement present. So sweet!

 Yep, 4 picture frames on the wall so far. Only four. Hoping to get more up soon.

That's about it for now. I'm currently freaking out about planning our wedding. Can't believe it's happening already. Also I need to start doing paper projects again.

Rush much

Most unrelated photo for a blog post in the history of this blog. Because I just love horse photos. (source)

Woohoo I finished The Inheritance of Loss today. Just checked the dates and it's exactly one week. Awesome. Such good timing. I'm  not ready to start with Tolstoy's adulterous woman just yet so I'm just moving on to Sophie's World.
Kinda embarrassing seeing as Sophie is 10 years younger than I am but I'm only learning now what I should've learnt when I was 14. Quite sad but that's life.

Tomorrow I'll be off to Singapore for a day with Adz and Jonnyboi for a Lykke Li concert at the Esplanade hall. Should be amazing. Hope to get some fun photos. Should I lug along my Diana F+? Hmmm.
I can't believe though that I'm planning for how Adeline and I are going to get back to our place from the airport the morning after next. But it's all good. Now I know roughly how to get around town by bus. Not that I'd want to, unless I was insanely desperate. Woohooooo Diane's all grown up and more. *cue applause*

Okay I need to get packing. Need to wake up earlier than usual. Need to be super ready. Need to stay fresh. Probably gonna be the most tiring Singapore trip. Until the next, of course. Woohoooooooooo

'Tis the Season

{haha...from The Thought Experiment via nevver}

When the holidays arrive, you're bound to not be able to update blogs and other social networking sites you might have. So I'm sure anyone would understand when I say I didn't have the time nor the mood to sit and write something here. heh.

Anyway, I'm currently...
Reading: Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenin
Listening to: Band of Horses' first album
Experiencing: a nasty infection on my left foot area which hurts when I walk..
Waiting: for January, really. As crazy as it sounds. December is too chaotic for me.

Oh! I went to Penang with the gang for a short escape from the craziness (work for them, home for me) and it was mostly a food expedition with a little sight-seeing thrown in for good measure.
Prawn mee, Asam Laksa, Cendol, MuarChee/Mochi, Samosa, Nasi kandar, Tambun biscuits, hot puttu, Char koay teow, grilled chicken, Curry mee, Popiah, Satay, Lobak, oh goshh...

All I can say is this: Awesome. And we should do it more often. Didn't take many nice photos but I do have some, so I'll post a few next time.

And December means one thing: Christmas!!
And it reminds me that it's already been more than a year since I went to Paris (sigh)...

Happy Holidays and Blessed Christmas!

i see songs

But I think everyone else does as well. What else would you be doing while listening to a song? definitely imagining something in your head, maybe a place, an event, people, objects. Or even replaying the video of the song in your head (if there was a video - and if you saw it.)
Well, this one particular song that got me imagining a place was definitely not in the video.

The video: stop motion crazy random sh*t, a little on the line of the lyrics.
In my head: the streets of Paris, or even any cobblestone road and pavement. Oh, don't ask. It just appeared to me as the song came on my player. And I was thoroughly impressed by the ability of Regina Spektor's song to conjure such an image (more like images, actually). But I do have a feeling that it has to do with the piano line..and violins.

[in other news]
Partied with the gang after a long time. It was very, very awesome :)

P.S: what do you see when you listen to particular songs?

Inspiração

{photo from weheartit}

I'm so so lucky to have a real life person whom i have met before who inspires me. It beats being inspired by a celebrity or anyone else living overseas, from the internet, etc. I have to say that this person is the epitome of carefree. And I wish to be more like him one day :)
To be able to do exactly what I want with my life, for myself, I think it is the most fulfilling feeling in the world. And I think I will do it, when the time comes. I don't want to keep thinking about what would happen if I hadn't done this or that. Life is short. It's time to live it now, not make plans for the future. (although right now, I am planning for the future a little, aren't I...OK so plans for the near future is alright, but not 10 years from now.)
In order to fulfil this amazing dream (or soon-to-be reality) I would definitely need to start earning my own money. It will be the only way. More on that another time.

p.s: 3 guesses about what I'd like to do with my life, judging from the photos ;)

turning 23

ah yes, Monday is indeed here and it's already half gone. Anyway, I had the desire to write a little bit about my birthday (growing older - it's inevitable, I've come to terms with that). It started off a good few hours earlier by me going out to dinner with a few of my good friends though the anti-climax came soon after (our food came a tad too late). And at midnight, I was online and who else was the first to wish me but lady J (altogether - *awww*). It's like she's getting sweeter and sweeter by the day or something, it's insane! Anyways, my boy whom I love planned to take me out the whole day but as they say, Man plans and God decides. Right? hope I got that right. So we planned to go to Central Market (no, it's not the real market where you buy chicken and stuff, gramma! I still love you!) a.k.a Pasar Seni, and more specifically the Annexe Gallery. But then I almost got a ticket for parking in the wrong spot and we decided to go somewhere else :( We ended up in the Bukit Bintang area where we ate at a Moroccan Restaurant :) It was the best!! And it was the boy's first time trying Moroccan/Arabian food and it was good!! *happy* (cos I suggested some food haha) I do have to point out that the price was oh so high. But it was worth it :)

Later that night, my lovely boy threw me a BBQ party at his house and it couldn't get any better than that :) I felt extremely spoilt and pampered. Got lotsa presents as well :) Photos will come much later. Too busy now :(
All my close friends were there, even the boy's parents and my lil ol' gramma :)
And yes, for once, I did not get hammered. Yay, 23! Don't hope too much for 24 though.
