Love Recollections

These words are probably what I would say to someone if they asked me how my husband and I met and how we ended up together, married and blissfully in love.

I see how people can recall all the happy/funny moments they had while they were dating/married, and I feel bad because it's a little harder for me to remember. Maybe if I spent some time to really think about it I would be able to come up with a list of things we did or he did or I did.

Honestly, I cannot remember what he was saying to me just before he asked me to marry him. He had a speech prepared and he was telling me so many beautiful things, in front of our loved ones, and I just couldn't focus on what he was saying. All I could pay attention to was him on his knee, holding my hand. Then he asked and I said yes after a short pause, trying to make him sweat a little. But I knew I wanted to marry him many years before that, so that was all for show, really.

So yes. What Walt Whitman said: "We were together. I forget the rest."

Now we have a son together, and we can't wait to give him a little sister or brother already. Everyday we tell each other how crazy it is just with one child, but always end up telling each other we want another, maybe two more kids. It's just bonkers!

What remains is the love we have for each other, through the tough times and angry-at-each-other times. At the end of the day, we always come back to each other, there's no where else we'd want to be.

Happy Valentine's Day. Totally ignoring my own words a year ago here.

V-Day, schmee-day

Happy Valentine's Day, lovers and non-lovers.

It's of no doubt Valentine's Day was created by this genius of a greeting card writer stuck at their desk thinking of a new card to come up with. And then, BOOM. Prices for flowers and chocolates and heart-shaped everythings and dinners and brunches shoot up for one more day in a year.

I like the idea that Valentine's Day should be celebrated by single friends and family too. Also, if you need a 'holiday' to remind you to tell your loved ones that you love them, maybe you need to step it up a little.

Anyway, we added this beautiful poem by e.e. cummings in our wedding booklet. Just thought I'd share it.

The Smartest Marketing Scheme (I think..)

So it was Valentine's Day. Nothing was planned as (not) expected. Anyway I should've posted this sooner so it'll be more relevant.

"It was love at first sight, at last sight, at ever and ever sight."
-Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

I got that from this site Flavorwire that has a list of 30 Literary Quotes That Just Might Get You Laid. haha.

love note

Slipping, slipping
Pulling away
stares
As far as she goes
He runs after
when the dark days come
Letting go seems inevitable
but not for him
not for me
Her hands hold tight
to his shirt
The only thing she knows
in this world
for sure
is
He is the one.

Ok this is my sad attempt at writing without thinking too much. I will do better next time. I don't really care if this is all bad I just needed to get it out.

of shrews and good covers

{one of the various movie posters of 10 Things I Hate About You}

I just watched 10 Things I Hate About You for what I think is the 30th time (or more, but who's counting). And it always makes me laugh and leaves me smiling to myself like an idiot. Yup. This is the movie that got me into Julia Stiles because I felt like she was her character and I wanted to be like her so very badly (as pathetic as it sounds). I just loved her suave character and basically everything about her. Also, this was my first time watching Joseph Gordon-Levitt on the big screen and I was uber-hot for him. Ah. Last but not least, Heath Ledger. I fell in love with him instantly. And I wished he and Julia were a real couple everyday after that. I think Heath Ledger is the only actor of whom I would hate to talk about. I just cannot talk about him. Anyway, here's a little something I stole from this awesome movie that took my 'virginity' in terms of teen movies. And this is the best first time anyone would want to have had.
-10 things i hate about you-

I hate the way you talk to me,
and the way you cut your hair.
I hate the way you drive my car,
I hate it when you stare.
I hate your big dumb combat boots,
and the way you read my mind.
I hate you so much it makes me sick,
it even makes me rhyme.
I hate the way you're always right,
I hate it when you lie.
I hate it when you make me laugh,
even worse when you make me cry.
I hate it when you're not around,
and the fact that you didn't call.
But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you,
not even close,
not even a little bit,
not even at all.

Ahh..I will never tire of this movie. Never. Including its soundtrack. Just makes me fall in love with the 90's all over again. I'm a closet hopeless romantic but I guess not so 'closet' any more. You got me, I surrender. I long for old movies nowadays. The lucky people in the US and probably everywhere else have a special TV channel dedicated to old movies. That is my idea of paradise, definitely. Yes I'm a movie addict. And I probably need help and that's OK.

I wish we had paintballs that didn't require guns. damn

One Day We Will Be King And Queen

One day I will go to the French countryside, be it in Normandy (where these photos are taken) or Provence or where ever, to stay in a quaint little cottage. I see myself reading a good book in a chair (like the blue one in the photo above) as the sun shines in, but I don't mind it because the weather is still cooling. And in the evening, we would take bicycle rides on the drive path. This, to me, is the ultimate dream, the ideal life (though some actually have theirs, so there's no harm in dreaming).

P.s: Feast your senses with more alluring photos of life in the French countryside at sfgirlbybay's blog here :)

turning 23

ah yes, Monday is indeed here and it's already half gone. Anyway, I had the desire to write a little bit about my birthday (growing older - it's inevitable, I've come to terms with that). It started off a good few hours earlier by me going out to dinner with a few of my good friends though the anti-climax came soon after (our food came a tad too late). And at midnight, I was online and who else was the first to wish me but lady J (altogether - *awww*). It's like she's getting sweeter and sweeter by the day or something, it's insane! Anyways, my boy whom I love planned to take me out the whole day but as they say, Man plans and God decides. Right? hope I got that right. So we planned to go to Central Market (no, it's not the real market where you buy chicken and stuff, gramma! I still love you!) a.k.a Pasar Seni, and more specifically the Annexe Gallery. But then I almost got a ticket for parking in the wrong spot and we decided to go somewhere else :( We ended up in the Bukit Bintang area where we ate at a Moroccan Restaurant :) It was the best!! And it was the boy's first time trying Moroccan/Arabian food and it was good!! *happy* (cos I suggested some food haha) I do have to point out that the price was oh so high. But it was worth it :)

Later that night, my lovely boy threw me a BBQ party at his house and it couldn't get any better than that :) I felt extremely spoilt and pampered. Got lotsa presents as well :) Photos will come much later. Too busy now :(
All my close friends were there, even the boy's parents and my lil ol' gramma :)
And yes, for once, I did not get hammered. Yay, 23! Don't hope too much for 24 though.

major absence

I feel like it's been forever since I last posted anything here. I've been dying to but I just couldn't bring myself to write. (yes, it is ironic.)
Anyway, Mother's Day was last week and all I could do was a mixtape CD for my mum (sadly I couldn't take a photo because I don't have a digital camera at the mo..don't tell her that tho..working on it!) and thank goodness she loves it :) I'm a little bummed because I didn't include everything that I wanted to tell her. But I plan to think of another way to do that. Soon. When I can. By the end of this year.
OK, after rummaging through my google reader full of posts from all over the world, I've come across a tiny thought for the day: The Perks of Living in Europe. Actually it's more of what I think about everyday of the year...preferably Paris :)

aaah. Life. Am I asking for too much here? Don't answer that.

Surprise, Surprise

You wouldn't believe what I got for Valentine's Day. Actually, I couldn't believe it myself.
A Diana F+ special edition (it's called CMYK, cyan-magenta-yellow-black, the 4 most important colours to print designers)!!!! Finally!!! it's so pretty! Thanks to my amazing boy, I can go forward with dabbling into analogue photography :)
{how cute is it, seriously?}

I have yet to get my 120 film so it will take some time before I get to post my "work" here haha..but I can't hardly wait.

oh btw, if you haven't noticed, I've made a 'list' for the song/songs that I'm listening to every day. Only the ones that I think you should experience with me :)

Hello is One Letter Away from Hell

I've come across so many awesome things online, it's not funny. Again, I've been bogged down by some terrible workloads..please forgive me .. plus, my google reader is full to the brim..(289 unread posts!!)
Here's the first...just in time for Valentine's Day ;)

"For you and for me, the highest moment, the keenest moment is not when
our minds dominate but when we lose our mind - and you and I
both lose it the same way, by love."
-Anais Nin in a letter to Henry Miller. 22 Feb. 1932
-got this from Every Little Counts-

Another super interesting one is a blog [Letters of Note] which posts up interesting letters from anyone really.
here are two that struck my fancy:
(1) Mark Twain's angry reply
(2) J.D. Salinger's refusal letter

welcome back, me

wow, Europe was eye-opening.
(but isn't it always?)
everyone keeps asking me "how was Paris? how was Europe?"
I'm really at a loss for words..I just say "goooood"
all I can really say is..it's not what I expected..
BUT-you can't complain about the scenery..the countryside..oh.my.gawdd.
it is to die for.. that's one thing I love about Europe..or maybe the Western countries.
The scenery. The green. The white. Breathtaking.
capturing it on camera is not doing it justice but that's the least a traveler can do.
On my trip though, I learned/discovered a few things:
Jack Kerouac (although he's American)
Josephine Baker (also American at first)
Italians are worse than the French
I'm not used to the winter too well..
Paris is quite dirty, sadly.

I'm too sluggish to post any photos here cos even doing it on facebook is so taxing..
I'll be off to Krabi, Thailand for New Years on the 30th (woohoo!)
looking forward to that..

I'll leave you now with this song which sounded extra awesome while i was on the road :)

A New Day

Hello Tuesday!
News Flash: I have just decided to take up photography! It's so exciting, although I don't have my own DSLR yet..BUT - I'm so lucky because my good friend Arvind (Thampy) had his old SLR lying around (it's a film SLR btw - even more exciting! - Canon EOS 300v), so I'm loaning it from him for now (shameless..)
Arv's is in black though - cooler :)

and hopefully I will get it up and running by Wednesday because I will be too busy today, with all the graduation recitals going on..(about 6 of them!)
oh gosh I'm so excited..but I am really strapped for cash right now..it sucks so badly! ughh
Also, I haven't really learnt or read up on photography (e.g. the basics) just relying on pointers by my two favourite boys :) but don't worry I will kick my own ass to start reading up...soon..

.Joachim.

.Arvind.
(No, I did not take these photos.. haha..please check them out tho)

blow your candles, all 21 of them

this is a tribute to my cousin Jolynn on her 21st Birthday (i'm a day late actually)

Jolynn, oh gosh, where do i start?? she's just the most amazing cousin anyone can ever wish to have, and i am so blessed to have her in my life, without knowing and thinking much about it.
She's the kind of person who will try her best to be there for you when she can.
And she has been there for me, oh countless times..
Wherever she is in the world, she would make you feel as if she's right there beside you (thanks to the genius of the internet, and of course Alexander Graham Bell)
But i would still miss her when she's not around
21 already, she is definitely matured beyond her age..sometimes i feel like she's the older sister i never had (LOL i'm that immature..)
I don't know what else to say, she's so many things and more than anyone can ask for in a daughter, sister, cousin, and friend
She's beautiful inside and out and i'm very proud and lucky (again) to have her as my cousin
Jolynn darling, happy 21st birthday ! You're officially an adult! [even though you have been acting like one for a long time now ;) ]
I love you Jolynn!
Hope you had an awesome 21st party in Melbourne :)
hugs and kisses XOXO

cold iced lemon tea

On Saturday, i hung out with my dear friend and cousin Siok Leng and Meena :) we were out for quite long, about half the day from 3pm to 12.30am! the best part was i didn't feel it at all. cos that's what happens when you're having fun :)
anyways, we had chinese dinner and then went off to meet two more friends for supper (almost right away cos we took quite awhile for dinner) to this sad little place called CoffeeMug. so we were ordering our drinks and my charming girlfriend SL asked for "iced lemon tea, please. Oh can you make it cold? (she thought she ordered hot iced lemon tea....)" i may have changed her exact words, but that was what it meant LOL i was laughing so much tears were just streaming down my face and i feared a sore throat was coming along but lo it didn't :)
On Sunday, i went to my gramma and grampa's house for lunch and also to spend time with them cos i haven't seen them in 2 weeks. i ended up sleeping after lunch for about an hour and a half. i felt so bad! then my everloving pohpoh made me tea and showed me rambutans that she picked from the tree in her garden, asking me to eat some. and then she lamented about how she couldn't pick some really ripe, nice-looking ones that were growing too high up the tree. so i decided to TRY to pick them with a stick-n-hook my grampa made (omg i tell you, he can make anything from scratch, anything to do with the outdoors just ask)
and i did manage to get a number of 'em down (yayy) it was so fun.it was my first time doing this! it was quite hard as well. it made me really happy that i could do that for my grandparents. cos most of the time i feel useless really. yeah...it was a good day. then at night i watched this show called 'Samantha Who?' it was really good :)
today, back to uni :(
peace n love,
