Paperbags of Love

As usual, I'm late to the party. The paperbag party.

First up, I came across Tellkiddo, an online shop based in Sweden, selling large paperbags with cute-as-heck designs on it. I wish I could have at least 5 of those! What a bloody clever idea. They've just begun producing fabric bags now (be still, heart).

And then, I came across another paperbag. It shouldn't be so enticing, but it just is!
Le sac en papier. French. Ah. That explains it.

All photos taken from Le sac en papier.
So.. I didn't know you could use these paper bags so many ways.

Visual Candy Floss

I just got my mind blown.

This video is done by Afiq Omar.
"Second installation of my ongoing series focused on analog visual effects, understanding fluid dynamics, magnetism & natural invisible forces. This time around I experimented with mixing tiny portions of ferrofluid & other chemicals, soap, alcohol, milk etc. Not for the trypophobic for sure." - Afiq Omar

There are 3 videos in this series so far. Check the other two out as well. Very pretty.
(Thanks, Uzair)

Also, check out this other video (I came across through even*cleveland) of an experiment on how frequency (Hz) manipulates the axons (part of a neuron/nerve cell) which affects the muscles in the chromatophores of a squid. Obviously I don't understand the science behind this too well. All I know is that it's super cool because this is really happening, in a living thing. It's extra awesome because the song chosen is Cypress Hill's 'Insane in the Membrane'; hence the cool title. More info right here.

Ariele Alasko

It's my first time coming across a woman who builds for a living. A modern-day carpenter. How awesomely cool can you get, really?
Ariele Alasko went to art school in New York to study sculpture, then ended up building tables and headboards and everything else (in time, I'm sure). Beautiful, structured tables. I wish I could buy one of them.

Just another reason why I wish everyday I was living in New York. Small cozy apartments and access to amazing-as-hell stuff right where I (would) live (let's imagine for a second).

I think Ariele is just amazing. Her vision is astounding. It's crazy to know that all she uses is reclaimed wood. In other words, unwanted scraps of wood. But she takes them in and turns them into irresistible pieces of furniture. Now that is pure skill.

I can't sew to save my soul, I wouldn't bother trying my hand at building. So I'm just going to sit here and covet all the things she makes forever.

{In her element - by the way, her workspace is right there in her apartment. So hardcore.}

{Handmade salvaged wooden table}

 {Ariele tiled the wall herself(!)}

What the hell are you doing?

I just wanted to share a few things that has inspired me these past few weeks. I've (obviously) been hit with writers' (or undefinable person's) block and I just wasn't too confident about posting anything here. Hopefully my creative juices start flooding out again. Soon. Hopefully.

In the meanwhile, I hope these help you too. Or at least give you that final push to do more.

makes sense

And that's about it. I've been watching too much and lazing around. Right now, all I want is a full-time job. Then maybe I'd use my time a lot more efficiently.

Life philosophies

Woody Allen can just talk for hours. If I were in his company I would fall asleep right in front of him. Okay so I actually won't. Because I'd be in Woody Allen's company. I'd be bug-eyed and probably a little high (mentally and maybe physically). But damn he talks too much. Maybe it's not the most attractive personality trait to me because I'm a total opposite (I talk too little). But I wouldn't mind, for a while. Kinda like the way he talks, really. Plus, I might learn a few things.

Just watched this clip from Broadway Danny Rose. Now I just need to watch the whole movie. (thanks to even*cleveland for sharing it -- I'll be forever grateful)

make me better

Before I go on: Sorry for having this post look like you accidentally clicked on my Tumblr, but I couldn't help myself. I'm weak.
Okay, now that that's out of the way, I just had to talk about this girl Krissy, she's awesome. I'm sure if we met, we'd get along pretty well, awkward silences in tow. She posts weekly music mixes (I think) and they're a joy to listen to. Refreshing. Also, she has a tumblr, and that's where I found all these awesome pictures/photos. Some are just a reminder to myself to keep creating stuff and others are just pretty.

Laugh

Sleep is currently eluding me so here I am. I forgot to share this earlier than now so.
I came across this through a Tumblr-blog, because it is the best place on earth.
I'm sorry it's impossible to read it here but I just wanted to have it here.

Mitch Clem is one hilarious cartoonist. And sometimes self-deprecating (where necessary) and blunt. I just sat and read every one of his strips in one go. It's addictive, really. Sadly though he's stopped posting his drawings there anymore. But anyway it's still worth a read. And it's a very good pick-me-up. Go now!

Currently--
Listening to Arcade Fire. Relating a lot to Suburban War.
Thinking a lot about my future
Contemplating a whole new (scary) life
Back on f******k but I've cleaned it up so I don't have to see updates I'm not bothered about. (I know, I'm mean and antisocial and defeat the whole purpose)

treasure-trove

I've been living in Tumblr-world a lot recently. It's probably why there aren't many posts here.
In that time, I've stumbled across many, many crazy-beautiful blogs - on life, love, self and the world. One particular blog that struck me was oceanofmind. I do hope you have an open mind when reading this blog because I think it is quite personal to the owner. And I admire his bravery in writing and posting about his beliefs, thoughts, views and interests for everyone to pore over.
Besides his blog, I'm feasting my ears to his playlist as well.

"Do not allow your emotions to rule you, otherwise you will suffer. To ground yourself and discover the real centre, is your life's real purpose."

Some things are worth doing

screen-captured by yours truly. Michelberger Hotel

I don't know or remember why I didn't talk about this earlier. It's been quite a while I don't remember when I found this hotel's site on the web. I think this site is too cool and I don't wanna know how they came up with it (though I have a few guesses that might be right haha). It just shows that there is no limit to creativity. And that is just amazing.
I don't think I would be able to afford staying there but I'd definitely check it out. It kinda exudes the lifestyle I desire. But doesn't everything else, these days?(Attn: Adeline!)

posterrific

Nate Duval is something. He's the kind of artist I dreamed I would grow up to be. Prepare to be bombed with some of his posters here.

I'm not too good with artwork techniques and whatchamacallit so all I'm going to say is he got skillz, yo!

fearless

I just came across this talented girl from Portugal, Wasted Rita. Hell, anyone who can draw and create something with a pen or pencil is talented. I feel like she doesn't care to please anyone but herself and that is not such an easy thing to do. I hope I can do that soon. She's an illustrator and here are some of her works that I like.

coincidence much?

OK so I found this cool video while browsing KinkyBlueFairy which brought me to Stit:Stit, where I found said video. It was done for Native Son.

The music is a listen too, hey? I like it.

Song of the day: Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek

I was about to listen to that song when I got exciting news that my cousin proposed to his girlfriend. So...song of the day :) I now have two cousins, who happen to be brothers, engaged to their girlfriends. Congrats, you guys! This year is looking better and better.

online magazines.

Holy crap. It's like your birthday when it's not.

{all images sourced from rue magazine}

Please check out RUE because it'll blow your mind. It does kinda suck because most stuff that's on there, I can't afford let alone think of buying because, well, I just can't afford them. But the magazine is done so nicely and so pretty and it's on your computer screen. It's just awesome. Saving so many trees with this amazing idea for an online magazine.

And here's another online magazine I found: Matchbook. It has crazy beautiful things in there that you will covet forever.

Song of the day: Lissie - Pursuit of Happiness (cover)  [ thank you nicole :) ]

365 days of pure goodness.

I stumbled upon this tumblr 365q while tumblring yesterday. It just blew my brains. This guy Julian Bialowas combines two of the best things (to me, anyway): Photography and Inspirational Quotes, a 365-day project. Exactly what I needed. And hot damn, are his photos awesome. He does landscape photography (most probably because he goes hiking and climbing a lot). And he's 20?!
I feel so robbed. I robbed myself of my own age-to-achievements ratio. But no. I'm not going to feel sorry for myself. Here are some of his awesome shots + quotes.

I think this is my best find since ever

Another Joe That I Love.

"..'Twas a shiny bright earth-spin, the up-over was a sheeny cobaltic blue fest.."
"Destiny masticated her sugar stick (the layman's lollipop)..leaving Morgan haberdashed.."
The script (narrated) is just awesome. Witty, fresh, smart. Awesome.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (or Joe, as preferred) is just a great guy. He's formed a sort of company and created a website, hitRECord.org. Please check it out. It gives many creative people out there an opportunity to get their works recognized and published and appreciated.

eureka

{sneak peek at awesomeness}

I feel like I've discovered an awesome, untouched gold mine! I was just getting through my daily blog reading (yeah, I follow about 50+ blogs) and while reading sfgirlbybay's blogpost by a guest blogger from a blog called dudley, I came across this blog by Lucy Laucht.
Once you've taken a look, you'll agree with me for sure. I'd want her as my stylist if I was a celebrity. And since I'm not, I think I've found my style guru. She's perfect!
And then, Miss Lucy recommends another fashion blogger: Qqueen of Hearts. And I'm like, "Wow". This is like a treasure chest you never want to share with anybody. Almost.
So, enjoy, as I will.

Quotable Quotes

There's a website of a really cool and awesome artist called Handlettering Cite. He writes out clever, inspiring, and thought-provoking quotes of notable individuals. It helps that it turns out really good. I'd love to do something like this soon :)

In case it's not too clear:
"Security is mostly a superstition, it does not exist in nature..
Life is either a daring adventure or nothing"
-Helen Keller
[this is my favorite]
Another cool blog about kissing-photos has some nice quotes, more towards love and all that stuff. Two that caught my eye:
"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity."
--Albert Einstein

"Boys and girls in America have such a sad time together; sophistication demands that they submit to sex immediately without proper preliminary talk. Not courting talk- real straight talk about souls, for life is holy and every moment is precious.” --Jack Kerouac, On the Road
p.s: Jack Kerouac's On the Road would be another book that I'd love to read. :)

blah day

{Brandon Boyd's "Spilling Spinning" - I forgot where I got this from, maybe his website or the Incubus website}

I found this awesome mix (aptly titled 'Songs that make you feel better') posted on Tumblr through Will Drew's tumblr (which you gotta check out, that's why I linked it..). If you need a good ending to a rough day, please go ahead and enjoy the mix. Only 8 songs, and they actually load pretty fast. I was duly surprised.

Yeah I had a 'blah' day, got beaten down. But I hope to rise to the challenge soon. Now I gotta take a bit of a holiday :)

Need: to desperately lose weight.

Want: to earn money.

Getting: closer to the end. hopefully no potholes ahead.

Still: need to figure out what I want to do with my life.

another same excuse

So I won't bother explaining the lack of posts. But then again, I should not stray from the real reason this blog exists. So I'm just excited I changed my banner, because I did it all by myself! This just goes to show how easy it can be. (I'm not computer savvy, you see.)

Big news: I've decided to go forward with my concerto this too-short semester. Even though I'm still blogging, I am working harder on the piano :) I need to open my heart more to it. Apparently, it looks like I hate the piano to people watching. And I would make a bad actress. There goes acting school. Although I'm all set to change that opinion. In the near future.

Listening to: a lot of Arcade Fire.

Watching: Julian Smith videos on YouTube.

(you didn't think I'd go without leaving a link did you? smirk)
